With my Home Economics degree from the University of Illinois, I have worked as an interior designer, managed a craft store, and 'on the side' I offered custom dressmaking services and sold fabrics for Leiter's Designer Fabrics and House of Laird. After attending a Martha Pullen Business School of Art Fashion, I fell in love with heirloom sewing, and launched a line of patterns for women within the heirloom industry. That led to opening my retail fabric/sewing machine dealership storefront from 1990 to 2003. Seeking a 'normal' life, I closed the retail storefront and went totally E-commerce with my website.
I began to design and sell artistic jackets on a sweatshirt base and then at the suggestion of a customer, sold my wares at a sewing expo in TX and sold 100 sweatshirts in July at which time my hubby said, "Dear, I think you're onto something here!" That led to many years focusing on sweatshirt makeovers, what I called 'Creative Sweatshirt Jackets', publication of many patterns, books, and a DVD in that genre. I traveled extensively from 2005 through spring, 2018 teaching and vending at sewing expos and guilds around the country.
With my husband's retirement and a move from IL to TN, I now accept only a few 'traveling' bookings each year, focusing instead on teaching ALL ages at my Sunroom Sewing Studio in Jackson, TN. I also offer Creative Sewing Retreats for 1-4 people at my spacious and sunny Sewing Studio. Call to schedule YOUR retreat!
Along with teaching youth and adults at my studio, my current passion is designing CREATIVE knit tops, with strong focus on up-cycle sewing. I share my how-to's in my publications, at my Blog and You-Tube. I started a local Jackson Sewing Guild, and lead local charitable sewing for Days for Girls (www.daysforgirls.org).
My knit top patterns offer a unique concept, including links to private VIDEOS where I show and talk you through each step. If you can READ it, SEE it, and HEAR it...I promise, you CAN sew it!
What I love most about this business is teaching and sharing the designs and the techniques I've developed - to ALL ages! My website mission is to offer related and hard-to-find sewing products with exceptional personal service. My customers are my friends - and I LOVE to answer any and all questions regarding my products and sewing techniques.
